Foundation for Southern Italy

The Foundation for Southern Italy was established on 22 November 2006. Giuseppe Guzzetti, Acri's chairman, was the driving force behind this project, which is the brainchild of a protocol of understanding for the implementation of a social infrastructure plan in Southern Italy signed in 2005 by Acri and the Third Sector Forum. Participants include such charities and volunteer associations as Compagnia di San Paolo, Consulta Nazionale Permanente del Volontariato presso il Forum, CSV.net-Coordinamento Nazionale dei Centri di Servizio per il Volontariato, Consulta Nazionale dei Comitati di Gestione-Co.Ge.

The Foundation for Southern Italy intends to encourage and strengthen social infrastructures in Southern Italy, especially the regions included in priority objective 1 of Council Regulation (EC) No. 1260 of 21 June 1999. The Foundation will cooperate with Southern Italian organisations, in order to benefit from the relevant synergies, to foster the development of solidarity networks in local communities, in a context of subsidiarity and social responsibility. This will be achieved by strengthening and providing resources to volunteer, third sector and foundation networks in terms of innovative tools and concepts. While they are in no way meant to replace public institutions in their necessary role, these networks will establish a synergistic relationship with them, to help to attain the common good and to pursue the public interest.
